Commercial Holiday Lighting in Cambridge

Cambridge has three historic main streets, a commercial strip on Hespeler Road that hosts the City's night parade, and a large industrial and office base. Each wants something different from a holiday display.

Commercial work follows the same safety rules as a house and a different calendar. A storefront wants to be lit for the first big shopping weekend and the event on its own street, a property manager wants a single invoice and a certificate of insurance, and a plant wants its front entrance done before the staff party without anyone working near the loading docks.

Who it is for

  • Main street storefronts. Downtown Galt, Preston's King Street and Queen Street in Hespeler. Window outlines, awnings, door garland and lit wreaths, installed early morning or after close.
  • Plazas on Hespeler Road and elsewhere. Rooflines, pylon surrounds where the landlord allows, and tree wraps in the islands, timed for the parade crowd and the December evenings.
  • Condominium and townhouse corporations. Entrance features, common-element trees and clubhouse rooflines, quoted to the board with one invoice and a schedule.
  • Offices, plants and institutions. Front entrances, flagpole trees and signage-free landscape lighting.

Permanent lighting for businesses

Permanent track along a storefront fascia or a plaza roofline works hard for a business: holiday colours in December, warm white the rest of the year for a lit, open-looking frontage, and colours for local events. On a building in the Main Street heritage district, or in the proposed Galt Core district, the City's heritage staff should be asked before anything is fastened to the facade.

Paperwork

Certificates of insurance and WSIB clearance are provided on request for property managers and corporations. Lifts, sidewalk occupancy and any approval from the landlord or the City are identified in the quote. Any new outlet or circuit is done by a Licensed Electrical Contractor with ESA notification.

Service

Commercial installs include service calls through the season, so a dark section in front of a store is fixed quickly. Takedown is scheduled for early January or after a date you set.

Designing for the street

A storefront on one of the old main streets is seen from the sidewalk at walking pace, so the detail that matters is at eye level: window frames, the door, garland and wreaths that people pass within an arm's length. A plaza on Hespeler Road is seen from a car at speed, so the roofline and big shapes do the work and the small detail is wasted. A condominium entrance is seen by residents every evening for six weeks, so warm white that does not tire the eye usually wins over a busy colour scheme. The design is drawn on photos of the property with those views in mind, and it is priced line by line so a board or an owner can cut or add before signing.
