Christmas Light Installation in Galt

Christmas light installation across Galt, from the Dickson Hill streets west of the Grand to East Galt and the newer subdivisions to the south.

Galt is the largest of the three former towns that became Cambridge in 1973, and the most varied to light. The older streets on the hills either side of the Grand River hold nineteenth-century stone and brick houses with steep gables and cornices, and two of the City's designated heritage conservation districts are here: Dickson Hill, west of the river, known for its tree-lined streets and globe street lights, and the Main Street district downtown, with a Galt Core district in draft. On those houses seasonal lights go on clips and stakes so nothing is fastened to stone or old trim, and anyone thinking about permanent lighting should speak to the City's heritage staff first. East Galt and the newer streets to the south are a different job: two-storeys and townhouses with straight vinyl soffit that suit permanent track. Downtown Galt hosted the Unsilent Night walk during Winterfest 2025, and the mature maples on the older streets make tree wraps a popular add-on.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover Ayr and the rest of North Dumfries?

Yes. Ayr, Branchton and the rural roads of North Dumfries are booked on the same terms as the city. Rural jobs tend to include more trees, longer driveways and outbuildings, which the quote reflects.

Is the electricity price different outside the city?

GrandBridge Energy serves both Cambridge and the Township of North Dumfries, and the Ontario Energy Board sets the same Time-of-Use, Ultra-Low Overnight and Tiered prices for all of them. Some rural properties are with a different distributor; your bill says which.

Is my house in a heritage district?

The City lists Blair Village, Dickson Hill and the Main Street district, with a Galt Core district in progress. If you are in or near one and want permanent lighting, ask the City's heritage staff first; seasonal clip-on lights do not fasten anything to the building.
